Lots of Kayak welding here in Hickory!! Cousin Philip H. had a crack building in his Riot Magnum where it had been welded by the previous owner. Kayakpsych has also acquired a uber cracked Eskimo Salto for FREE!!! Only 5 cracks including the nose of the boat totally split open. After some time consuming cleaning and welding inside and out, the Salto is almost ready to go back on the water. The hold out now is the inside of the split nose. The outside is welded solid but due to its location we cannot weld the inside. we are going to attempt to pour some GFlex on the inside of the crack and fill the nose in with expanding foam. Here are a few pics of the Welding happenings!

(Completed weld on Philips Magnum)

(Salto Drilled and partially cleaned)

(Welding in progress. after this cools cleaning and welding continues)
Wilson Creek!

19 August 2010 Haven’t had the opportunity to paddle Wilson creek in months due to low water conditions. However there was just enough rain to let it run at a low level and James and I were available for an early morning run. Early morning rainy Wilson is definitely the way to go. No other boaters due to the early time and no urban sprawl due to the rainy conditions. It is so nice to have the river to your self sometimes.

Going Green Again…
July 24, 2010 | Category: Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
When its the only game in town, its the game! I have no issues with the Green River being the only flow around (beside the USNWC). Sometimes you just have to rough it on the green at 7 inches. What is truly amazing though is that 7 inches is the lowest i have ever run the Green. Water levels since moving to North Carolina have been great!!! I think that Kayakpsych relocating to NC has increased natural flow and precipitation levels.
Release was scheduled to be 0700-1200 however after rushing down the Upper Green with James and Philip Hunt for Philip’s PFD, we met another paddler at the Narrows put in informing us that the release had been changed to 2359 hrs. That was GREAT. No rush down the narrows. While Philip was hiking out to the parking lot, James and I continued down the Narrows and stopped twice for some photos with the new Canon SLR.

As always, the Green River Narrows is an awesome river with lots of boofs, slides, and slots. Level was 7 Inches. On a hot mid-July day, the Green beats the heat with cool water, and plenty of it. James and myself cruised the narrows and made a few stops for some photos.

Its been a while since paddling the Green Narrows… A free day opened up and some good friends became available. Sunny warm day with 8 inches on the stick. James Capozzi, Erin “Junk Show”, Chase, Jim, and myself went for a leisurely paddle on the Green. Smooth lines for all through Bride and Frankenstein all the way to Neices Pieces. I have always run left through neices but decided to change things up and try something new by running the boof on the right. Note to self: boof far right next to the wall, the hole is sticky… James was nice enough to assist me in exiting the hole inside my boat. Thanks James!! Chase went for a nice ride in the hole at the bottom of Powerslide and cooled off in the clear green water. Some smooth lines through Rapid Transit and the Tube with a short walk around Sunshine. The bottom section is great fun as always with slots and boofs! What a great river!!! John W.

Its hard to do Webpage editing when there is rain and natural flow… Hitting up Linville Gorge tomorrow which should make me sufficiently sore enough to sit down on the sofa for a while and do some editing!!!
